Excalibur
It’s not weird that I give my various clubs little pet names, right? Or that I talk to them?
And, maybe, on occasion, sing songs about them as I pull them outta the bag (”I’m bringin’ Sixie back…”)?
My current favorite club is my Command BK approach wedge from Pinemeadow Golf:
And for you spec junkies (ripped off lovingly from the Pinemeadow page):
| Loft (deg) | 50 |
| Lie (deg) | 64.5 |
| Weight (g) | 300 |
| Offset (mm) | 3.7 |
I got mine, like the rest of my Command BK iron set, with the standard grip and a regular flex, +1/2″ Apollo Lite Steel shaft.
Unlike the other rat bastard clubs in my bag, Excalibur rarely fails me. In fact, if you look at my scorecards and see anything positive on a particular hole (GIR, birdie, etc), there’s a pretty good chance this approach wedge played a part.
The thing is deadly for me from just about any distance under ~120 yards. Off the tee on a short par 3, I’m landing within 10-20 feet of the cup a good percentage of the time (by my standards, laser-like accuracy). Chipping, pitching, little flop shots over green side bunkers (and other various crap I manage to put in play with my more rebellious clubs)… you name it, Excalibur can take it. Hell, I’ve even managed to put a little backspin on the occasional shot with it.
Now, that’s not to say, of course, that I still don’t manage to Justinify the occasional shot with this guy. Damn it, Jim, it’s a golf club, not a miracle worker. But still, when I can get to a point where I’m pulling Excalibur out of the bag, things are looking up.
Assuming I haven’t already taken 8 strokes.
And that I don’t 4-putt.
Or, you know, just generally suck. As usual.

Ok, so maybe calling what I do out on the course "golfing" is using the term a little loosely...
